RIP Opportunity, the Mars rover that was designed to last 90 days in the harsh environment of red planet and kept on ticking for over fourteen years. If only it had enough power left in its battery to make that final transmission.

The three basic elements to story are Objective, Obstacle and Ticking Clock. The later refers to an unstoppable event that forces the story to continue forward to its conclusion. This can be something as obvious as the timer on a bomb, or as subtle as someone’s temper threatening to explode.
